Major Points of the Lateral Foot

Hi All

Many thanks to Ciaran in Lansdowne College for the series of document/diagrams I'm about to expose you to... he has spent many a long hour creating these golden nuggets. As a group I think these would be very handy to print out and laminate...

I will try upload one or two per week to dilute the information and get good mileage from them :)

This week it's the major points of the lateral foot...

Enjoy.

Acupuncture for Colic in Infants

One more for those of you out there with children - a study on the effectiveness of acupuncture on babies with colic...

The children were needled lightly at LI4 on both hands for about 20 seconds over the course of four sessions with positive results.

Have a look...

Lansdowne College Teaching Dates

Hi All

I have put up the remaining teaching weekends for the rest of the college year on the calendar. Vincent called them out to me last week.

The calendar has restricted access so you'll only be able to see them once you log in.

If any other colleges would like their dates included or if you have dates of interest to acupuncturists (lectures, courses etc) please contact me and I'll stick them up too.

The things you find on the internet...

Okay so sometimes it's hard to find things on the internet, sometimes you just stumble across things.

Eastland Press are the publishing company that print the Deadman 'Manual of Acupuncture' amongst other things. Their website www.eastlandpress.com
also provides excerpts from some of their other book offerings on Acupuncture and TCM. So I've attached some of their samples as PDFs for your enjoyment.

Remember if you like a book and want to buy it then please let me know and I'll make sure it's available to buy through this site, the sale of which will financially support the site's running and maintenance costs.

Enjoy...

Welcome back...

And so a new year of study begins (for me anyway)...

Congratulations to all who have passed exams or indeed gained full qualification since we last spoke.

Things have been extremely busy around 'me' so I may have neglected to update the site for the past month or so but I will endeavour to continue with the enthusiasm with which I started.

That said however, if anyone thinks that they may have time to devote to keeping the site up to date with medical journals, articles of relevance etc then please don't hesitate to contact me and we can sort something out. This website is about the acupuncture 'community' and if it becomes a community site with community input it has a real chance at becoming something special within the Irish TCM sphere.

The Effectiveness of Skin Sterilisation before inserting needles

Hi All

Welcome to the Summer holidays :)

Attached is an interesting article which effectively states that swabbing the skin with alcohol before inserting needles is a pointless practice... I don't think Vincent would agree!

Further reading...

Hi all

Just a quick note to say that I've put a link on the navigation mention on the left hand side called 'Further Reading', the crux of which is this...

We all buy acupuncture and TCM books for our courses and for our own interest, some of us buy them online.

If you are one of these people then might I encourage you to use the links on the page to purchase the books. If you do buy through these links I'll get approx 5% of the cost of the book in commission. This commission will go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the site which you may or may not know amounts to a couple of hundred euro per annum.

If you have any books you're planning to buy which are not on the 'Further Reading' page please drop me a quick e-mail and I'll get it up there within a day.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

The following article is taken from www.chinesemedicinetimes.com - please visit their site for more...

Acupuncture vs Botox: How does Acupuncture compare to Botulinum Neurotoxin A for cosmetic purposes?
by Sam Corban

Recently, acupuncture has gained popularity as a cosmetic treatment for the face. The strongest action of acupuncture is said to be the smoothing out of fine lines and wrinkles. In this sense it is comparable to medicine containing botulinum neurotoxin A, the most popular and well known brand of which is Botox. Patients investigating cosmetic acupuncture are often interested in how acupuncture compares to botulinum neurotoxin A and what scientific evidence there is for the efficacy of cosmetic acupuncture. At present, there are just a few clinical trials investigating acupuncture for cosmetic purposes. However, the basis of its use can be posited from: what is known about the general mechanisms of acupuncture; trials of acupuncture used in other facial disorders; and importantly from clinical experience.

Gray's Anatomy - no not that one!

Hi all

I've put up an interesting link in the links section for Gray's Anatomy Online by Bartelby Books.

So, if you can't tell your Fossa Triangularis from your Tibial Tuberosity now's the time to get stuck in and learn...

As always, if anyone has any suggestions for the site please get in touch and let me know.

We are currently a month behind in the eBook and I believe we need the Small Intestine & San Jiao Channels and the Stomach Organ. If anyone has them typed up please feel free to send them on and I'll get them formatted and up as soon as I can.

regards

brian
